The Appointment of Dr. Constantin Gurdgiev as Economic Advisor to the Irish Exporters Association was announced today (12th March 2010)
Mr John Whelan, Chief Executive of the IEA in making the announcement stated;
"The Irish Exporters Association sees the appointment of Dr. Constantin Gurdgiev as an important aspect of it's drive to ensure new and innovative thinking is brought to bear on solutions to Irelands export difficulties , and to better align the organisations policy proposals to meet the changing characteristics of international trade."
Dr. Constantin Gurdgiev is the Head of Macroeconomics, Global Centre for Economic Development, IBM and the Adjunct Lecturer in Finance with Trinity College, Dublin. He serves as a Chairman of the Ireland-Russia Business Association and Chief Economist of the Irish Exporters Association.
He is a Fellow of a number of academic associations and a member of the Editorial Board of nine international academic journals in the fields of Economics, Law and Business. Dr Gurdgiev also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Essential Innovation Forum and a member of the Executive Panel of the McKinsey&Co.
He writes regular columns for Business & Finance magazine, Village magazine and frequently contributes to the Irish edition of the Sunday Times. He writes a daily economics and finance blog http://www.trueeconomics.blogspot.com/.
Dr Gurdgiev holds PhD in Macroeconomics and Finance from Trinity College, Dublin, MA in Economics from Johns Hopkins University and MA in Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles. He was the recipient of the Millennium Scholar Award from the University of Chicago, 1997-1999 and the Johns Hopkins University Award 1998-2000, as well as Whatley Award from the Trinity College, Dublin in 2000-2003.
Dr Gurdgiev's book on international debt and development, co-edited with Professor Colm Kearney and Sharon Jackson, Perspectives on International Debt, was published by Trinity College, Dublin in 2007.
In the past, Dr Gurdgiev served as a Group Editor and Director of Business & Finance Publications, Head of Global Strategy and Research with Heinz Associates, and Director of Research with NCB Stockbrokers, Ltd.
