Banned Medicines from China Circulating in the UK

The MHRA have issued warning to the UK market about the fact that there are more than 900 packs of potentially dangerous traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) being sold on the market. The product, Jingzhi Kesou Tan Chuan Wan, which is unlicensed, has been distributed through the UK to 20 TCM and herbal medicine outlets. Although the distributor, Eking International (UK) issued a recall in February 2010, there is still more than three quarters of the original stock that was issued missing and has not returned to the UK. English labelling has been sealed over the original labelling which contained the Chinese symbols for the lethal plant Aristolochia, which is a prohibited toxic and a carcinogenic plant extract.

Kidney failure and development of cacer, especially in the urinary tract, can be direct results when exposed to aristolochic acids. It shows how natural does not exactly mean safe. This plant extract can cause serious injury and may even result in death if taken. It is essential for anyone having taken this product to immediately consult a doctor.
