Consumer Research Results Published by IMBThe IMB recently conducted research into the level of research that people conduct before buying/taking medicines. The results were interesting; showing the 3 out of 4 people read information regarding the medicine before taking it and 1 in 4 people would consult the Internet before buying or taking a product. Research showed that those who consult the Internet usually do so in order to check symptoms, self diagnose themselves or to research the different medicines that may be available to them. While 49% of those who do consult the internet as a source of information state that it influences their choice of medicine or medical treatment, only 2% of them have actually ever bought medicines online. The survey results also showed that GPs are Pharmacists are still the most trusted sources of information. Two thirds of respondents claimed they were sceptical over the authenticity of medicines online while nearly 70% of respondents were not even aware that it is illegal in Ireland to purchase medicine online.
