DB Schenker Extends it Service Support to the Pharmaceutical Industry
DB Schenker was awarded (4th March 2011) a Life Sciences GDP Passport by
the Irish Exporters Association (IEA). This marks another step in
supporting pharmaceutical and medical devices manufacturers to expand
trade from Ireland, securely and efficiently. This follows the recent award to DB Schenker of a Wholesale Licence by the Irish Medicines Board (Feb 2011) which demonstrates the company's commitment to the Pharmaceutical sector in Ireland. John Whelan, Chief Executive of Irish Exporters Association stated at the presentation of the IEA Life Sciences GDP Passport to DB Schenker; ‘’In Ireland we have gained tremendously from the globalisation of the manufacture of pharmaceutical products and medical devices. However, the global supply chain from bulk manufacturing to sub supply and final packaging for safe patient use brings a wide range of challenges from the maintenance of appropriate transit conditions to final medicinal consumption. The more global and complex the distribution network, the more difficult it is to ensure that goods follow approved routes and are transported by approved and trained delivery drivers. For adequate monitoring of the supply chain it will be essential that transit records are properly maintained so quality is assured at every point along the pharmaceutical supply chain. | |
Logistics and transport partners such as DB Schenker have been upgrading their systems to get pharmaceutical products and medical devices to the international markets safely, securely and efficiently. The recent IMB Wholesalers Licence awarded to DB Schenker further underlines the commitment of the whole team here to supporting the life sciences industry in Ireland.”
At the Press Conference to announce this most recent expansion of its GDP certification Richard Riddler, Quality Manager at DB Schenker, stated;
“In Ireland DB Schenker has significant facilities in Dublin, Shannon and Cork. Recently due to continued expansion we moved into a new and much larger facility in Cork. With over 139 highly trained professionals in Ireland we offer a full range of services including Air, Ocean, Land, and Logistic activities to our broad range of Customers. As well as the GDP Passport received today we have achieved AEO “F”, ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, Irish Medicines Board Wholesale Licence and TAPA “A” for security. This demonstrates to our Customers that we are setting the pace within our industry to provide the best care possible for Pharmaceutical product.
With over 2000 Offices in 138 Countries, DB Schenker stands for performance, service and security - today and in the future. No matter how complex and comprehensive the logistical tasks might be, with its robust business model, DB Schenker is ready to meet the increase in freight flows and the demands of its customers in increasingly integrated international markets. We provide integrated services from a single source: seamless transportation chains using all modes of transportation – be it Air, land, Ocean or freight train.”
