Export Industry Awards –2011 Launch

The Irish Exporters Association today 20th July launched the 2011 Export Industry Awards at the National Convention Centre, Dublin. The award ceremony which will be held on 11th November is a celebration of all that is good in the export industry and recognises those companies which have achieved significant export success in their industry category. The award ceremony also bestows the coveted Irish Exporter of the Year Award.

Mark Fitzgerald, IEA President, stated at the launch;
“If we look at recent award winners particularly in the last three years there has been a noticeable trend of recognising companies who have prospered through ideas and innovation rather than merely reducing costs and expenditure.
The Irish Dairy Board as both the Food Exporter of the year 2010 and as the overall Exporter of the Year 2010 clearly demonstrates these traits with their entrepreneurship, savvy market research, strong brand management and overriding passion for their products.”

Mark Fitzgerald went on to say: -
“The other key trend we have noticed has been that great innovative developments are no longer exclusively in technology but rather can occur across the full business spectrum. A great example of this is Glanbia’s success in winning the Innovation Exporter of the year for 2010.”

Mark Fitzgerald further stated: -
“Innovation must remain at the centre of the plate for all Irish Exporters whether they are multinational or indigenous companies if future export success is to be attained. Irish Exporters have done remarkable things to innovate and change their business models over the past three years to cope with market forces, intensified competition, ever increasing customer expectations and unexpected market shifts. In regard to the latter, the recent rapid change in commodity prices has caused many food exporters to reappraise and indeed change their business models.”
“As we contemplate export performance for the remainder of the year we remain optimistic that once again Irish Exporters will deliver significant year on year growth. However, it is vital that post its initial ‘100 days’ plan the new Government settles into the task of managing the economy against the difficult and extraordinary backdrop of the Eurozone Sovereign Debt Crisis.”
“We are encouraged by the level of engagement by government with the IEA in key issues such as the Asia Trade Strategy, transport infrastructure and overall competiveness issues. At the same time, we believe in the IEA, that Government itself must become more innovative in its own approach as it tackles the big issues of public sector reform, Government efficiency, creating long term sustainable employment and building strong indigenous business whilst continuing to retain existing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and attract new FDI from the emerging markets.”

Mr. Fitzgerald concluded:
“In returning to the primary focus of today’s launch event; the call for entries into the 2011 Export industry Awards, the simple recognition of exporting excellence in all its many aspects is a key reason for hosting the Awards. It acknowledges world class innovation in export businesses; it encourages other exporters to compete internationally when they see how their fellow exporters have succeeded and crucially it demonstrates clearly that Ireland remains a dynamic progressive and open economy.”
“I wish to thank on behalf of the IEA all those companies who have put the time and effort into making their award submissions over the past number of years. The sharing of the good news success stories is reward in itself, as it inspires fellow exporters in their ongoing efforts to achieve export success.”

Kevin Lane, CEO of the Irish Dairy Board, stated at the launch;
“Being honoured with the prestigious Exporter of the Year Award 2010 was a significant achievement for our business and underpins the important contribution that the agri-food sector makes to the Irish economy. The IDB has been at the forefront of exporting and marketing Irish dairy products to over 80 international markets for the last 50 years and achieving this award was an endorsement of the great work we do on behalf of our members. It was a badge of honour and recognition which we applied across a number of platforms during the year including strengthening relationships with our international customers, agents and distributors, banks and in attracting new talent to our business.”
