Exporters Welcome the strong Yes vote for Lisbon, and state we must now build on this to regenerate the economy
The Irish Exporters Association’s today welcomed the resounding YES vote in favour of ratifying the Lisbon Treaty, and thanked all the export businesses , freight forwarding association , road haulage association , port companies and airports for their collaborative work with the IEA in it’s Export Europe campaign, which helped explain why being at the heart of Europe was key to future export growth. According to Mr John Whelan, Chief Executive of the Irish Exporters Association (IEA) ,the YES vote issue has kept the focus off other critical EU issues which must now be tackled as a matter of urgency, and pointed to number one in this list of other issues as ;
‘’Taking the necessary actions to bring the Euro down to more a competitive trading level.This can only be done, he said, by a coordinated approach by all the Euro zone member states, acting through the ECB.The Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Minister for Finance, must now commence a major campaign of persuasion at Brussels , to ensure this happens as rapidly as possible, to ensure exports out of Europe and Ireland are not held down by a prolonged over valued euro.’’
END.
