Implementation of Critical Infrastructure Bill is essential to success of New National Development Programme, state I.E.A.

The Irish Exporters Association, on the eve of the launch of the second National Development Programme (NDP 2007 -2013) stated that....

The estimated expenditure under the NDP 2 is likely to be three times the cost of the first development programme.

► There has been extreme difficulty during the first Development Programme in implementing the infrastructural proposals. Many key projects have missed their completion dates and many more have been wildly over-budget.

For the second, much longer National Development Plan due out tomorrow, implementation and budget over-run will be even harder to manage.

The Critical Infrastructure Bill, promised 5 years ago when the present government was elected, must be introduced immediately as a cornerstone of NDP2, if the anticipated challenging -but much needed- infrastructural projects are to be brought in on time and on budget.
