Initial Trials of New Aspirin

Aspirin, the most commonly prescribed drug, is often used to avoid heart attack or stroke, among other uses. Whilst extremely functional for avoiding blood clots, for those who take it often it can have terrible side effects due to the acidic nature of the drug. These side effects include bleeding and ulcers of the stomach because it dissolves before it has the chance to enter the blood stream.

A new type of Aspirin, developed by a Dublin Pharmaceutical Firm – Solvotrin Therapeutics, is now in the process of being developed without these side affects. Dr. John Gilmer added a molecule to the aspirin, which means it does not begin dissolving until it has hit the bloodstream. This means that both the stomach and small intestine will be protected from harmful effects. They are now looking into human clinical trials, which are due to begin at the end of next year.
