Large Pharmaceutical Companies are not Trusted By Patients’ GroupsOf 665 organisations assessed by PatientView, which examines the opinions and views of patient groups around the world, only 37% of them thought that the pharmaceutical industry was trustworthy. Since this review in 2008, less than a quarter feel that they have seen any improvement. European companies were viewed more highly than UK or American ones, with Novartis of Switzerland performing the best and Baxter from the USA was the worst.
With concerns over patient access to treatment due to cutbacks in medical care and job losses in the recession, many feel there is little transparency in the industry in spite of industry exports trying to increase information on clinical trials. Many are viewing this industry negatively as the increase in drug prices persist, which is especially difficult for those on low incomes.
