2009
At the launch of the 2009 Export Industry Awards programme, today, 5th August, Liam Shanahan President of the IEA Stated:
Irish Exports are proving to be very resilient, confirming our ability as an exporting nation to create real value in our products and services. The Irish workforce is proving itself to be extraordinarily adaptable in a global context and has commenced the essential journey to restoring competitiveness.
He went on to say;
"The 2009 Export Industry Awards programme being launched today will highlight
the extra ordinary efforts of many companies in achieving export growth despite the economic downturn. This is not the time to hide away; we must show case our best. Our aim with the Awards is to be pro active and even more customer and market focused.
He concluded by saying;
"While our recent export figures issued by the CSO are encouraging, it is clear that increasing our export performance is highly dependent on improving our cost competitiveness. The Government has taken vital initiatives designed to support the trading sector but must now urgently implement the McCarthy Report or Bord Snip Nua recommendations to reduce the cost base of Government. This is a necessary step to improving the base from which exports can grow."
