Life Sciences Exports, 63% of total merchandise exports in 2010

According to the latest figures released by the Irish Exporters Association in their 2010 Year End Review, total exports reached the highest level ever growing 18% in the 4th quarter of 2010, bringing total exports for the year to €161 billion.

Manufactured or merchanside exports grew by 6.3% in 2010. The Life Sciences sector (chemicals, pharmaceutical and medical devices) accounts now for 63% of total Irish merchandise exports and grew 12% in 2010.

Growth in the pharmaceutical industry has driven Ireland´s positive growth during the recession.

The IEA Life Sciences Division has been very active supporting the competitiveness of the sector through its Good Distribution Practice (GDP) for pharmaceutical products training and GDP Passport, ensuring integrity in the supply chain of pharmaceutical products and medical devices.
