New President Elected to the Irish Exporters Association, Mr. Mark Fitzgerald, Citibank Europe Plc.

Mark Fitzgerald is a director and board member both of Citibank Europe plc and its immediate parent company Citibank Holdings Ireland Limited (CHIL). Prior to his current role, Mark served as Director and Head of Trustee Services for Citibank Trustees Ireland Limited (CTIL) from 1997 until 2001. Mark is a past Council Member of the Dublin Funds Industry Association (DFIA). For many years, Mark served as Chairman of the DFIA Trustee Committee. Mark holds a Barrister-At-Law degree from Kings Inns and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Cork. Mark started his career with Allied Irish Investments Bank in 1987. Mark was Head of Trustee Services in Ulster Bank Markets from 1994 until 1997.
The IEA, the main body representing export industry in Ireland, stated in relation to the appointment;
Services exports reached €67 billion last year and now account for 45% of total Irish exports, and are increasingly being led by companies such as Citi.
The election of Mark Fitzgerald will help ensure the focus is firmly maintained on the key drivers of growth for our services exporters and ensure government fully understand the needs of the sector. Services exports are expected to exceed our merchandise exports for the first time.
Citi has had a presence in Ireland since 1965 and celebrates 45 years in 2010. The company offers a broad range of financial services and products and also has operations which support the products and services for Citi’s Global Transaction Services business. The bank provides financial services and products for multinational companies, Irish companies and the government and public sector. The range of products and services offered are cash management, rate risk management, (FX and interest rates), funding, investor products, corporate finance, trade services, custody, trustee services, fund administration, transfer agency, outsourcing and shareholder services.
Citi in Ireland – a First for Financial R&D
Citi was the first international financial institutions to receive RD&I financial assistance from the Irish government. To date Citi has invested USD 100million in RD&I projects in Dublin and created a Centre of Excellence for the development of products and processes for Citi’s EMEA business. The projects in the Centre include the development of the next generation of e-banking projects and the next generation of intelligent payment solutions. The Centre will employ 100 people by end of 2010.
Mr Colin Lawlor , Director of Biancamed Ltd , was elected vice president of the IEA, and Mr John Carr, vice president of Flextronics Ltd , was also elected as vice president of the IEA.
