Over the Counter Medicines More Expensive in Ireland
A recent study has found that people in the Republic of Ireland are paying nearly twice as much for over the counter medicines than those in the UK. Some medicines, such as painkillers and herbal medicines, are up to 91% dearer than the exact same ones being sold in the UK. Even though there have been price reductions on these prices in Ireland, we are still paying way over the top.
Prescription medicines are no better – Nurofen differs in price by 54% between the two countries while Alco seltzer differs by a whopper 80%. It is claimed that the reason for the difference lies on the manufacturers who charge a higher price in Ireland than they do in the UK. But they cannot keep supplying the market at these prices. They are unaffordable and lead people to buy medicines elsewhere, such as online, where they don’t know exactly what it is they are buying.
