Pharmaceutical and medical technologies companies need best distribution practice when reaching exports markets

Three decades of continuous investment by multinational medical device and pharmaceutical companies and the growth and expansion of our indigenous medtech companies has helped make Ireland the European centre for the Life Science Industry.

With 9 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in the world based here, 7 of the top 10 blockbuster drugs manufactured here and 15 of the world’s top 20 Medical Technology companies operating here, it is essential that Ireland can provide the associated services required by these companies to operate, grow and compete.

John Whelan, Chief Executive of the Irish Exporters Association (IEA) stated at the award ceremony:
Left to Right: David O'Brien - Managing Director Geodis Ireland Susan Lally - Operations Director John Whelan - CEO Irish Exports Association Robert Cashman - Commerical Director Derek Smith - Quality Manager and Responsible Person
The strict requirements laid down by the IEA in order to be awarded a GDP (Good Distribution Practice) Passport are essential to ensure that the highest standards and quality is provided by supply chain and logistics companies to the pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies in Ireland.

Geodis Irelands’ commitment to this sector is commendable. Geodis Ireland is an established leader and innovator in this sector, having received its Irish Medicines Board Wholesalers Licence in 2006 and today its GDP Passport. About IEA Life Sciences Ireland

Life Sciences Ireland, a division of the Irish Exporters Association (IEA) was established in 2006. Until recently IEA Life Sciences Ireland focused mainly on the area of Good Distribution Practice (GDP). IEA Life Sciences Ireland has developed a range of different GDP training courses for people working in the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors but also for sub-supply companies and service providers that do business with these sectors. An IEA Certified GDP Passport Scheme has also been developed, which has proven very attractive to industry in Ireland and increasingly to overseas organisations.

IEA Life Sciences Ireland will shortly launch a part-European funded supply chain initiative for the pharmaceutical, medical device and logistics industries. This industry-led initiative will concentrate on the development of a knowledge portal that will host customised training modules on a range of supply chain issues and also act as an industry communication platform going forward.
