The Exporters Association link up with the Port of Cork in the search for Deep Sea Shipping Company of the Year 2010

The Irish Exporters Association (IEA) has linked up with the Port of Cork in the search for the Deep Sea Shipping Company of the Year 2010, a key category in the National Export Industry Awards.
The award scheme for deep sea shipping companies who have successfully devised and supplied long haul shipping and supply chain services to enable exporters reach markets competitively across the globe, was launched today by John Whelan, Chief Executive of the IEA. Organised by the IEA in conjunction with the Port of Cork, the competition recognises the outstanding achievements and innovative activity of deep sea shipping companies in supporting Irish export industry through efficient export processing as well as import services .The Awards search will culminate with a Gala Awards ceremony on November 25th when the Taoiseach will announce the winner of the Deep Sea Shipping Company of the Year.
The Deep Sea Shipping Company of the Year 2010, sponsored by the Port of Cork recognises companies in the deep sea shipping and supply chain services sector that have made significant progress in developing and supplying deep sea connecting services to the export industry.
Speaking at the launch of the Deep Sea Shipping Company of the Year 2010, Capt. Michael McCarthy, Commercial Manager of the Port of Cork stated:
‘’Now that global trade has picked up again and freight volumes have started to grow ,we at the Port of Cork look towards the future with a measure of confidence and plan to provide our export customers and shipping partners with optimum service and performance . As part of this process we are delighted to sponsor the Deep Sea Shipping Company of the Year 2010 Award’’

John Whelan, CEO of the Irish Exporters Association stated at the launch:
‘’Exports have grown well in the first half of the year and will be the main driver of the Irish economy in 2010. However, efficient deep sea shipping services will be essential to reaching the fast growing Asian and South American markets , and hence the importance of this award , which helps keep our focus on the key long haul shipping services that supports our international development’’
