Speaking at the launch of the Manufacturing Exporter of the Year Awards, Nick Mernagh, Marketing Director of Enterprise Ireland stated:
‘’Manufacturing is fundamentally important to the Irish economy, and has been the back bone of our exporting success over many decades. It is also a major contributor not only to direct employment but also creates employment across many sub suppliers of goods and services. Enterprise Ireland has invested heavily in Irish manufacturing businesses and has seen tremendous growth in exports from the sector. These exporters have achieved success by focusing on excellence in manufacturing through their investment in technologies, adoption of Lean Business principles and development of new products, new processes and new markets. This award will help to highlight the tremendous efforts of many of the companies .’’
John Whelan, CEO of the Irish Exporters Association stated at the launch:
‘’Today, successful Irish manufacturers are knowledge intensive , capital intensive and skills intensive .This has enabled them to compete very successfully on international markets , despite the very severe competition from low cost economies .The IEA look forward to acknowledging the exceptional performance of these dedicated companies , their management and staff, through this award scheme.’’
